one of many WIP

3 Feb

i am making matching quilts for my boys, jed and micah. i wanted the blankets to evoke a rainy/stormy day feeling. the stripes kinda remind me of ocean waves which also seems fitting as i am going to hand quilt the top with horizontal wavy lines. this one has yet to be ironed (sorry), because it is not finished…almost though! i am going to back them with a sky blue cotton, which was actually a high-quality sheet that i used to make the curtains in their room. better pictures to come when it is no longer a work-in-progress! cheers!

Beware of handquilting through a high quality sheet backing. It often makes it very difficult to get tiny stitches, and it’s harder to pull the needle through. (I made this same choice with the first quilt I handquilted about thirty years ago)

this probably explains my frustrating start at hand-quilting. :) my stitches are larger, but it doesn’t bother me too much especially considering it’s the first time i’ve done this. thanks for the advice though… will remember for the next time around!
